The Adjutancy was in the hands of officers of the Regiment—

D. J. B. Taylor Adjutant from 11 Mar 17 to October, 1917


August 1918 – Captain of A Company, 12 Bn Somerset Light Infantry.


Killed leading A Company on 2 Sep 1918 in France/Flanders.


The attack met with heavy resistance from the enemy.  Artillery and machine gun fire being exceptionally severe.  In spite of heavy casualities the advance carried forward until across the Canal du Nord.


On that day the Battalion lost  5 officers, and 41 ORs killed

  6 officers wounded and 161 ORs wounded

  14 missing

Captain Taylor’s mother had the following plaque placed in the church at Thurlbear.

And on the tombstone in the Cemetry are the words “Far Away from All who Love Him”
